<p><strong><em>What is hypoglycemia?</em></strong></p>
<p>Hypoglycemia, also called low blood glucose or low blood sugar, occurs when blood glucose drops below normal levels. Glucose, an important source of energy for the body, comes from food. Carbohydrates are the main dietary source of glucose. Rice, potatoes, bread, tortillas, cereal, milk,<br />
fruit, and sweets are all carbohydrate-rich foods.</p>
<p><span id="more-3107"></span>Hypoglycemia can happen suddenly. It is usually mild and can be treated quickly and easily by eating or drinking a small amount of glucose-rich food. If left untreated, hypoglycemia can get worse and cause confusion, clumsiness, or fainting. Severe hypoglycemia can lead to seizures, coma, and even death.</p>
<p>In adults and children older than 10 years, hypoglycemia is uncommon except as a side effect of diabetes treatment. Hypoglycemia can also result, however, from other medications or diseases, hormone or enzyme deficiencies, or tumors.</p>
<p><strong><em>What effect does exercise have on glucose levels?</em></strong></p>
<p><strong><em> </em></strong><br />
Did you know that you can easily manage your diabetes just by engaging in exercise? There are exercises that have a good effect on the glucose levels of those suffering from type 2 diabetes. When you engage in exercise, you expend a lot of energy from the glucose found in your muscles. At first, the body simply uses up the glucose which is traced from your muscles’ glycogen. It is in your bloodstream where this glucose is found. Engaging in exercise means your blood glucose levels will not get lower. Additionally, your body also releases additional glucagon and hormones. These are important because they break down your liver’s stored fats, turning it into more glucose you can expend. Engaging in exercise means your body improves; it develops a better sensitivity when it comes to insulin, as well as allowing you to be more in control of your glycemic index.<br />
<strong><em>Why is the effect of exercise on glucose levels important to those with type 2 diabetes?</em></strong></p>
<p><strong><em> </em></strong><br />
Exercise indeed has a good effect on a patient’s glucose level. This is good news for people who have type 2 diabetes. A lot of research indicates that patients of diabetes gain more control over their glycemic as soon as they get used to a regular exercise program. On the other hand, people who do not engage in exercise find no improvement on their glycemic control. Since exercise improves your insulin sensitivity, you will also need less medicines in order to control the levels of your blood sugar.<br />
<strong><em>Should patients with type 2 diabetes exercise more often or differently than otherwise healthy people?</em></strong><br />
There are, of course, people who become at risk for hypoglycemia due to the combined effects of their diabetes and engaging in high stress exercise. This happens during exercise and after it, too. If you think about it though, people can also be at risk for hyperglycemia simply for having poor control over their diabetes. Therefore, the leaders in this field recommend engaging in moderate exercise for a minimum of 2 hours and 30 minutes, or 90 minutes if they want to do vigorous exercise.<br />
<strong><em>What type of exercise is best for type 2 diabetes patients?</em></strong><br />
When it comes to exercise, the kind of exercise that is used is not as important compared to the frequency of the exercise. There are also some studies showing that if you participate in both weight training and aerobic activity, you get even more benefits as a result.<br />
<strong><em>When should patients be discouraged from exercising?</em></strong></p>
<p>Of course, sometimes patients should not engage in vigorous exercise especially when they have cardiac conditions or they are more prone to developing injuries as a result. It is better if they start of slow and get used to a light intensity program instead.<br />
<strong><em>How might a patient be encouraged to exercise?</em></strong></p>
<p>You can encourage patients to exercise slowly and surely until they adapt to it.</p>

<p>For all of us who do not want to have a stiff neck I have some easy exercises.  I find that simply, carefully stretching your neck works wonders. </p>
<p><strong>1.</strong> Carefully strech move your head  backwards, forwards and to each side.</p>
<p><strong>2.</strong> Then roll slowly around in a circle.</p>
<p><strong>3.</strong> Never push it.  Just keep on breathing slowly stretching over and over again until your muscles feel relaxed again.</p>
<p>This video show another great exercise to cure stiff neck that you can do almost anywhere.</p>

<p>Here are a few of the natural home remedies that you can do to treat your chapped lips and make your lips look better.</p>
<p><strong>Drink lots of liquid.</strong> The simplest natural remedy for dry and chapped lips is adequate consumption of water or liquids.</p>
<p><strong>Regularly apply petroleum jelly at bedtime. </strong>It helps cure the dryness of lips and prevents further drying up. Keeping your lips moisturized would prevent you from getting chapped lips.</p>
<p><strong>Regularly apply milk cream.</strong> This reduces cracking of lips and regular practice removes dry skin and ensures softness of lips. Use the smooth paste formed by soaking some rose petals in milk.</p>
<p><strong>Apply fresh cucumber extract.</strong> This helps in giving you relief from the discomfort of having sore, chapped lips. Rub fresh juice from a cucumber slice on the lips and let it stay for at least an hour.</p>
<p><strong>Use glycerin and honey before bedtime.</strong> Add 2 drops of honey to a half teaspoon of glycerin. The effect can also be intensified by soaking fresh rose petals in it.</p>
<p><strong>Regularly apply Aloe Vera gel.</strong> It is a proven effective natural remedy for chapped lips. Simply smear a fine layer of Aloe Vera gel on lips twice a day. Regular application will prevent further cracking of lips.</p>
<p>Then, be patient. The skin of your lips needs time to heal itself while treating it with one of the above natural remedies. Your wish to have soft and moisturized lips will not be immediate. That&#8217;s why you have to give it some time to be restored to its better and healthier state.</p>

<p>This message just landed in my inbox. It&#8217;s great to hear someone talk about easy and inexpensive ways to avoid getting the flu. Let&#8217;s face it most of us will be exposed to the virus. The question is what do we can do to avoid it becoming a flu.</p>
<p>Dr Goyal has 6 very easy steps to stay healthy this fall/winter.</p>
<p><span id="more-2555"></span>Dr. Vinay Goyal is an MBBS,DRM,DNB (Intensivist and Thyroid specialist)   having clinical experience of over 20 years. He has worked in institutions like Hinduja Hospital , Bombay Hospital,  Saifee Hospital, Tata Memorial etc..</p>
<p>Presently, he is heading our Nuclear Medicine   Department and Thyroid clinic at Riddhivinayak Cardiac and Critical Centre, Malad (W).</p>
<p>The following message given by him makes a lot of sense and is important for everyone to know:</p>
<p>The only portals of entry are the nostrils and mouth/throat. In a global epidemic of this nature, it&#8217;s almost impossible to avoid coming into contact with H1N1 in   spite of all precautions. Contact with H1N1 is not so much of a problem as proliferation is.</p>
<p>While you are still healthy and not showing any symptoms of   H1N1 infection, in order to prevent proliferation, aggravation of symptoms   and development of secondary infections, some very simple steps, not fully highlighted   in most official communications, can be practiced (instead of focusing on how to stock N95 or Tamiflu):</p>
<p>1. Frequent hand-washing (well highlighted in all official communications).</p>
<p>2. &#8220;Hands-off-the-face&#8221; approach.   Resist all temptations to touch any part of face (except to eat or bathe).</p>
<p>3. Gargle twice a day with warm salt   water (use Listerine if you don&#8217;t trust salt). *H1N1 takes 2-3 days   after initial infection in the throat/ nasal cavity to proliferate   and show characteristic symptoms. gargling prevents proliferation. In a   way, gargling with salt water has the same effect on a healthy individual that Tamiflu has on an infected one. Don&#8217;t underestimate this simple, inexpensive and powerful preventative method.</p>
<p>4. Similar to 3 above, clean your nostrils at least   once every day with warm salt water. Not everybody may be good at using a Neti pot to clean nasal cavities, but blowing the nose hard once a day   and swabbing both nostrils with cotton buds dipped in warm salt water is very effective in bringing down viral population.</p>
<p>5. Boost your natural immunity with foods that   are rich in Vitamin C (Amla and other citrus fruits). If you   have to supplement with Vitamin C tablets, make sure that it also has Zinc to boost absorption.</p>
<p>6. Drink as much of warm liquids (tea,   coffee, etc) as you can. Drinking warm liquids has the same effect as gargling, but in the reverse direction. They wash off proliferating viruses   from the throat into the stomach where they cannot survive, proliferate or do   any harm.</p>
<p>I find it very refreshing to hear some more useful prevention tips than cover your cough. If I judge by the number of kids that are sick in the local schools here I think it&#8217;s about time I implement these steps in our family.</p>

<p>But first, how do you know if you have nail fungus?</p>
<p>Nail fungus are more likely to infect toe nails than finger nails. And the the big and little toe fingers are most likely to get harmed.
