Raw Food Protects You From Stroke

By Carolin

raw food

Three ounce raw fruits and vegetables a day cuts the risk of a with over 30%.

If you boil your veggies they have no such effect.

This is the result of a Dutch research that will to be presented today in San Fransisco.

Linda Oude Griep from the University of  Wageningen studied the routines of over 20.000 men and women for over ten year. She did not take into account the effects of different types of fruits and veggies, just whether they were raw or cooked.

Raw food creates major improvements in health. Heating food is believed to destroy enzymes in food that can assist in the digestion and absorption of food. Cooking is also thought to lessen the nutritional value of food.

Yeah, raw food is the best.
Do you eat a lot of raw food, John?

Yeah, cause we are not getting any younger…. Prevention is always better than cure…. So, I really watch my foods now and eat more healthy foods now.

That was a cool research by Linda’s group. I read another one where a controlled group was fed with ‘unpeeled’ potato diet and it helped their digestion. What was the % of her sample that suffered from a stroke?

Carolin: I like raw tomatos, I eat everything else boiled, so may be I am half-way there :) )

As the other John mentioned, I have heard heating most foods make them less healthy; however I have seen studies that tomato sauces and cooked carrots are both as healthy or healther than their raw form.

I make sure I eat raw food at every meal but I also eat cooked veggies often also. I believe everything needs to be in moderation.

I agree John, everything in moderation. I used to eat only raw food, but now I just eat a lot of it. With tomatoes it has been proven that it’s easier for our bodies to take up the lycopene if it is cooked. I hadn’t heard it about carrots.

Some of these sound like really useful tips – i can’t understand why this is not more publicised information??

These are the sort things that the government should introduce into school dinners etc, developing a more sustainable healthy future should surely be the way forward!!

    thanks, h :)
