Welcome back!
Have you been to the market recently? You must have noticed autumn foods displayed among others. Although we have access to summer and spring foods all throughout the year, let’s welcome the seasonal foods to add variety to our taste buds as well as our healthy diet.
According to the Diet Channel, eating according to season ensures a varied diet, helps out the local farmers while making it easier to consume fresh foods at their peak of ripeness.
Here are some of the best autumn foods:
- Root vegetables (garlic, onion, carrot, potato, sweet potato, yam, and burdock)
- Above-ground squashes and gourds (winter squash, acorn squash, and pumpkin)
- Dry, energy-rich nuts and seeds (walnuts and sunflower seeds)
- Fruits (apples, cranberries and pears)
Here’s a video that will give you different ideas for a great autumn menu based on the Harvard School of Public Health’s newly-designed Food Pyramid.
