You’ve seen a lot of advertisements about different shampoos and conditioners from the television and it is normal to want to buy them. But healthy hair is not just about the kind of hair products that you use. It has a lot to do with the food that you eat, as well.

The appearance of your hair has definitely a lot to tell about your health condition and eating habits. For example, thinning hair may mean iron deficiency or anemia while dull and limp hair indicate a lack of essential vitamins.

That’s why Health and Beauty Solutions recommends diets high in protein and omega-3 fatty acids. Below are the top 10 hair superfoods that you should include in your diet to have healthy tresses.

Salmon – Salmon is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which protect your scalp from drying. Vitamin B-12 and iron also found in salmon.

Beans – Beans are full of protein, which support hair growth. Beans are also rich in iron, zinc and biotin. A biotin deficiency causes brittle hair.

Green Leafy Vegetables – Dark green vegetables like spinach, chard and broccoli are high in vitamin A and C, which are necessary for the production of sebum. Sebum is an oily substance secreted by hair follicles essential for natural hair growth.

Eggs - Eggs are an excellent source of protein, biotin and vitamin B-12. All elements are important in maintaining healthy hair. Unlike other foods, preparation of eggs does not seem to make a difference – the benefits are the same.

Walnut – The nuts are good for the hair, particularly Brazil nuts. They are a great source of selenium, while walnuts are high in omega-3 fatty acids. Nuts, cashews and almonds have high zinc content. Zinc deficiency leads to hair loss.

Poultry – Chicken and turkey meat are high in protein. Lack of protein can  cause loss of hair color. Eating chicken may help prevent the loss of hair color and can keep hair strong.

Oysters – Oysters are an excellent source of zinc. Beef and lamb contain zinc for healthy hair.

Durum – Durum is rich in zinc, iron and B vitamins. Bread and breakfast cereals contain vitamins and minerals essential to maintaining healthy hair.

Carrots – Carrots are rich in vitamin A, which is ideal for maintaining a healthy scalp.

Dairy - Low fat milk and milk products are high in calcium and protein. Calcium, a mineral good for the bones is also good for your hair.

You’re absolutely right that there is more to beautiful, healthy hair than food. If you would like to give your hair a fast makeover than try a hair detox.
