Fall is just around the corner and you’ve probably noticed yourself sneezing more often recently. That could be caused by fall allergies. They cannot be avoided but there are things that you can do to free yourself from allergy discomforts such as sneezing and stuffy noses. One of them is to keep your home free from allergens that cause these discomforts.
Apartment living gives us tips in reducing fall allergens in your home or apartment.
Stay away from pets or keep them clean.
- Your pets’ hair may cause some people to suffer allergy and they easily pick up allergens when they are outdoors.
- Regularly brush and bathe your pets outdoors to keep loose hairs and pollens outside.
- Keep them away from your blankets, bed and furniture, especially during allergy season not to risk having allergens at places where you relax and sleep.
Clean up.
- Pollen and dust will also stick to your shoes, clothing and hair while you are out and about.
- Leave your coat and shoes at the door to avoid bringing the allergens into your home.
- Vacuum regularly to remove allergens that might have strayed to your carpet.
Keep your home closed.
- It will be nice to open your windows during fall season but this will also allow allergens to be blown inside your home.
- Do not open your windows unless it has rained enough to reduce amount of pollen in the air.
Wash regularly.
- Allergens may stick to your skin and hair if you spend considerable time outdoors like gardening or playing a sport.
- Wash up to remove allergens that you picked up outside.
- Don’t let your laundry sit for a long time and wash your bedding once a week to keep everything fresh and allergen-free.
Dust away.
- Use a cloth and cleaner that will pick up the allergens when cleaning up dust, pollen and dander on your furniture.
- The idea is to clean them, not move them around surfaces or stir them up into the air.
- Vacuum upholstered furniture and curtains.
