Chocolate Prevents Diabetes

The antioxidant flavonoids in chocolate have been getting a lot of praise lately.
The ironic part of the health benefits of chocolate is that the brown pigment has been shown to prevent type 2 diabetes. And it’s good for your blood vessels.
But remember, this is not true for just any chocolate bar or cake. It has to contain at least 70% pure cacao to give you any benefit.
Whenever you’re in New York City make sure to pass by Max Brenner’s Chocolate Bar. If you like chocolate this is a place you don’t want to miss.

Wii Exercising
January 24, 2009 by Carolin · 4 Comments

I got a Wii Fit for Christmas. And I love it!
I don’t have any illusions that it will give me as effective exercise as going to the health club. But it is fast, easy and a lot of fun.
I use it instead of watching TV.
There are many Wii games that are really quite good exercise. If you swap your regular screen time for some active games you’ve definitely won.
This tables shows the kcal per minute that you burn when playing on your Wii console compared to the real live thing.
Where: Wii Live
Golf: 3,1 3,9
Bowling: 3,9 7,2
Baseball: 4,5 7,3
Tennis: 5,2 8,1
Boxing: 7,2 10,2
Though I wonder if American College of Sports Medicine took all the walking and running into account when they did this research..
The results feels a bit high to me.
Of course it depends on HOW you play it. You can play Wii tennis with one hand in your pocket and the other just waiving your fist. You can also do the ski jump on the Wii Fit by simply standing on your board without moving.
But if your not doing anything then; what is the point?
Even if I find the resluts from American College of Sports Medicine high I absolutely find the Wii sports games great exercise. It is also very convenitent and a lot of fun.
There is a reason that even health clubs are adapting this type of exercising.
Check out the Wii Fit trailer.

Yellow for Your Immune System

That oranges are good for our immune system comes as no surprise. But it is not only the vitamin C that helps your immune system.
The yellow pigment, yellow carotenoids, is a great antioxidant.
Free radicals damage immune cells and the antidote to free radicals is the antioxidants.
Yellow carotenoids can be found in oranges, mandarins, peaches, mangoes and apricots.

Exercise While You Are Shopping
January 15, 2009 by Carolin · 3 Comments
American women spend on average one hour a day shopping. Men spend 40 minutes.
On exercise and sports men spend 25 min a day. Women spend only 13.
One hour a day shopping and only 13 min exercising..
I started to look around and found some easy exercises that you can do without anyone really paying attention to it. This is true multitasking where you strengthen your arms, shoulders, abs, thighs and lower legs as you do your daily shopping.
