Alcohol Shrinks Your Brain
By Carolin
In the October issue of the Archives of Neurology Carol Ann Paul, of Wellesley College, and colleagues reports that alcohol makes our brains shrink.
Even moderate intake such as a small glass of wine over dinner every night has a significant effect.
The positive effect that low to moderate alcohol intake has on our blood flow only helps our heart not our brain. The study also showed that the negative effect is more serious for women.
Since declines in brain volume and increases in white matter lesions are associated with memory loss and worsening dementia, the effects of alcohol likely have some functional impact over time, says Carol Ann Paul.

The benefits for the alcohol, or more specifically wine, are more geared toward the benefit of the polyphenols in the grapes. However, the alcohol has always been a detriment to body systems, the liver as well as the brain.

For a long time there has been a lot of talk about the positive effects on the body. Not the negative.
I think it’s important to see both sides.
It’s great to know that people are being kept aware that what we take in presumably for it’s good benefits might not necessarily translate to the same thing in the long run.

It is easy to justify a glas of wine with the health benefits for our heart but maybe we need to know a little more about it.
