I saw a lame reason to drink milk the other day.
It was that milk is better than soda.
Should we drink milk just because soda is bad? It sounds like they where running out of arguments. Yet I can’t say I don’t agree. I would much rather have my kids drink a glass of milk than a glass of soda.
Are there any good reasons to drink cows milk?
If you would swap your cows milk to rice milk the most significant difference is that you would need to make sure that you get enough calcium and vitamin B12.
A couple of days ago I published a post how to get enough calcium without dairy.
How about B12?
Vitamin B12 is necessary for the synthesis of red blood cells, the maintenance of the nervous system, and growth and development in children.
The traditional sources of B12 are meat, eggs and dairy. But milk not such a good source of vitamin B12 anyway.
You need to drink 1/2 liter or 2 cups of milk to get your RDI of vitamin B12.
But you could also eat just 33 grams or 1,2 ounces of salmon. Or 2 large eggs.
There is also B12 in spirulina and chlorella but the outstanding best source of vitamin B12 is liver.
More about Vitamin B12
Deficiency is more common than we might think. Symptoms are:
# Anemia
# Insomnia
# Loss of memory
# Lack of balance
# Depression
# Weakness
# Breathing difficulties
B12 is stored in the liver and can be reused. This way it can take up to 5 years before any symptoms are showing.

As they say Milk does the body good…pass it on.
I think that like most things drinking milk provides your body with a great deal of benefits not attainable by trying to take the separate pieces of it as a supplement. In other words the calcium, B12 work better when you get them from milk instead of pills.
