An international research team has found a gene that doubles the risk for men to have problems in their relationships and go through marriage crisis.
It is the gene variant 334 allele that researchers found has a negative association with men’s relationship with their spouses.
- Men who carried two copies of allele 334 were more than twice as likely (34%) to have relationship problems, such as facing threat of divorce, as men who had did not carry it (15%).
- Women married to men with one or two copies of allele 334 were more dissatisfied with their relationships than women married to men not carrying this gene variation.
- Men with two copies of allele 334 were almost twice as likely to be unmarried (32%) as men with no copies (17%).
It is believed that 40% of all men carry 334 allele.
