Are You Too Stuck in your Diet?
By Carolin
The other day I got a question from a person who was stuck in her weight loss.
She follows a strict calorie diet and exercises but still she feels she is not losing weight.
I’ve always liked counting calories.
It is just so logical; making sure that you eat and drink less calories than you use.
But to lose weight by counting calories is not all that straight forward.
One of the biggest myths in weight loss is:
If you eat very little you will lose weight!
The risks of only focusing on eating very few calories are:
- Your body might think your starving and lower its metabolism.
- You lose weight but only muscles and water.
- You stuff yourself with toxins that only increase your carvings.
The result is that you will feel bad. You get under nourished but you don’t lose weight. You will lose muscles. After your diet you will gain weight fast as your body will want to stock up on fat for the next period of starvation.
To get a real, healthy and PERMANENT weight loss I find that there are 3 E-factors to success:
Eat REAL food
Eat often
Exercise
Eat Real food
Products that are labeled with no-fat, low-fat, diet, no-sugar added etc are products that make me very skeptical. I always read the ingredients and I have never found a single one of these products that are healthy.
Low fat products are filled with sugar.
No sugar products are filled in artificial sweeteners.
And they are all filled with synthetic substances and toxins that you don’t want in your body.
Eat often
The usual 3 meals a day is not enough if you are cutting your diet. The risk of falling for carvings in between meals is just too big. Waiting long before you eat also increases the risk of overeating and it is bad of your metabolism.
By eating 5-6 smaller meals each day you can keep your metabolism high and you keep your sugar levels in control. You will also shrink your stomach which is great to avoid gaining weight again after you stop focusing on your diet.
Exercise
Exercise makes your weight loss much easier. It increases your metabolism, burns calories and builds muscles that will burn even more calories. On top of that, the exercise have a great effect on your mind. It makes you feel healthier and happier. It removes stress and tension.
And it does not have to be such a big thing. Go for a walk in the sunshine or play with your kids in the park. Even housework burns calories. It’s about using your body throughout the whole day.
Calorie counting is still great. Keep on counting! But use it as a tool to keep the track on the unhealthy food. If you love lattes then it is really important to know how many calories a latte really contains.
ON TOP OF the counting eat at much fresh, raw fruits and vegetables as you possibly can. Don’t bother counting how many calories they contain. I don’t think that anyone has ever become fat from eating too many fresh, raw fruits and vegetables.
So this is what I recommend to loose weight:
- Eat as much fresh, raw fruits and vegetables as you can.
- Count the calories on everything else you eat.
- Eat 5-6 smaller meals each day.
- Move your body as much and as often as you can.
This way you will feed you body and keep you metabolism high all day. In return, this time, you WILL loose that extra weight.
