Is your smoked ham fake?

February 24, 2008 by Carolin · 1 Comment

Hi! My name is Carolin. If you like the tips you see here, and there are hundreds of them, please subscribe. And don't forget to Follow me on Twitter .

Thanks for visiting!

I did not want to believe it when I heard about this. So I had to check it out myself.
And I am really sad to say that its true.

The chocking truth is:
Food companies fake smoking; grilling and roasting of the foods they sell us to increase their profits.
Red Arrow is a company that makes fake flavors. The company’s slogan is “it’s only natural”. What is natural about adding some mysterious powder to fake the smoking process?

The faked flavor is made from carbonized matchwood. So much for natural flavors.

  • Use Grillin 2056 if you want a gas grill flavor
  • Grillin 2055 if you want the illusion of a charcoal grill
  • Grillin 2057 for flame broiled grill flavor

It goes on and on. They thought of everything. The consumer, you and I, should not know the difference. And to make the picture complete they have browning products to give the food the right look. They market their browning products with these statements:

Imagine achieving a stable brown color of nearly any shade with a minimum of heat.

Imagine a product that reacts in the microwave and gives frozen food texture and color.

The meat is flavored and given the right color and then sold to us as grilled, smoked or roasted. How can this be legal?

Red Arrow is very successful company. They have distributors in over 80 countries.

It’s all so disappointing. Are there no real foods in our supermarkets? Just how far will food companies go to make money?
Maybe even Dr Suzanne Gudakunst right. Maybe they even put parasites in our food?

Is there a solution to all of this?
I believe that there is a growing number of people out there. Just like you and me. Who just don’t accept this anymore.
We want real food, and . There are good foods out there. Let’s all keep looking for them and support them.
Please help me spread the word about how food companies misuse our trust and sell us fake foods.

10 ways to get in shape with your kids

February 17, 2008 by Carolin · 1 Comment

I have 3 young kids and I know what it’s like to try to combine taking care of them with taking care of myself. For some reason they always come before me. This leaves me very little time to, for example, exercise.

I thought a lot about what to do about my basically non-existing fitness schedule. And I’ve found that the best way to handle the problem to find fitness activities that I can do together with my children. This will help me and it will benefit them as well by:

  • Keeping them active
  • Showing them that exercise is an important part of life

Kids love to spend time with their parents. In our house it can be a pain to get the kids of the couch and away from their precious video games. But I found a couple of words that do magic and they are:
Anyone who wants to go out and jump on the trampoline with me?

It is not the trampoline itself that is so much fun, it is the fact that we do it together. And it’s a great and fun way to exercise. I love it.
Here are some ideas on activities that both you and your kids will benefit from:

  1. You run and your kid bikes
  2. Play soccer together in the garden
  3. Put on some fun music and dance
  4. Get a Nintendo Wii or use a dance pad and play active fun games together
  5. Go to the swimming pool together once a week
  6. Go to a parent-child class of eg gymnastics
  7. Join them when the play at the playground
  8. Get an exercise DVD and 2 (one for you and one for your child) and exercise while you kid plays with the ball
  9. Get up the trampoline and have fun together
  10. Do active like roller skating, ice skating, bowling, cycling and skiing

Kids love to play, climb, run and use their bodies. Why do we as parents sit on the bench and just watch? is not just a good way to exercise it is also a great opportunity to learn something new. So instead of thinking of it as you taking care of your children think of it as what it really is:

A great opportunity for you and your child to have fun and get exercise.

There is no need to go to a fancy spa and pay lots of money for a salt exfoliation or a .
You can get that soft healthy skin by making your own high quality scrub for very little money. Making your own scrub is really easy and you need no fancy, hard to find ingredients.

Here are my recipes on natural .

Add 1 cup of sea salt to 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
Massage your body with circular movements. Always work towards you heart never from it.

Facial scrub: Sugar
Add 2 tablespoons of sugar to 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil

As the salt/sugar exfoliates your body the olive oil feeds and moistures your skin. Finish your treatment with a warm shower or a relaxing bath.

How to know if You Need a Colon Cleanse

February 11, 2008 by Carolin · 1 Comment

No matter where I turn the message is there:

The foundation of health begins in our digestive system.

For me the idea that a lot of our undigested food gets stuck in our intestines is revolting. Our intestine gets thicker and thicker while the canal where the food passes gets smaller and smaller.

But how can I know just how good or bad MY digestive system is working?

It is very easy. Chances are fair that you have all you need at home and can get started in about 30 sec. Basically as soon as you’ve finished reading this post.

Simply do this:

Grab a handful of shelled sunflower seeds and swallow them with as little chewing as possible.

Now all you have to do is look out for when then seeds come out in the other end.

If the seeds show up in up to 12 hours you’re in pretty good shape. But if it is more maybe even several days. Well, then you know you need to do something about it.

Remember to keep looking for a couple of days because it might be that some show up after 12 hours but that some take several days to pass.

How to Detox an Unhealthy Meal

February 7, 2008 by Carolin · Leave a Comment

Can a single meal be dangerous?

According to TIME magazine it takes only one high-fat, high-sugar meal can trigger a biochemical cascade, causing inflammation of blood vessels and immediate, detrimental changes to the nervous system.

Sounds pretty scary. Does this mean that we ALWAYS have to watch out with EVERYTHING we eat?

Of course not. I want to live a long healthy life and I’m really conscious about what I eat but still I’m only human.

I believe in the 80 / 20 rule.

If you eat healthy 80 percent of the time you can eat unhealthy the other 20. Read more

Healthy pancake recipe

February 5, 2008 by Carolin · Leave a Comment

First of all making pancakes with fresh ingredients it is so easy. Making it yourself gives you food that is fresh, mold free, free of additives and less expensive.

Then take the step to change your pancakes from the average junk food to healthy .
It is really easy. Simply swap the white flour for spelt flour. Spelt has a great taste and it contains a lot of nutrition. Use half whole flour and half refined.

If you use only refined spelt flour your kids won’t know the difference from their regular pancakes. Refined flour is put through a finer sieve to remove a large percentage of the bran. This gives a finer flour more like our regular wheat flour.

This is a great . The pancakes are easy to cook and taste great.
This is enough for 2 kids and 1 adult.

Ingredients
2 cups of refined spelt flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
4 eggs
4 teaspoons raw cane sugar
4 tablespoons olive oil
2 cups milk

Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and sugar.

In a separate bowl, combine egg and milk; add to flour mixture, stirring only until smooth. Blend in the oil.

Serve the pancakes with fresh fruits and berries.

If you need an extra sweetener use maple syrup, honey, chopped dates or raw cane sugar.

Enjoy!
