Vitamin C, a natural remedy to hay fever

April 24, 2007 by Carolin · Leave a Comment

Welcome back!

If you’re suffering from your are probably familiar with antihistamine drugs.

The thing is that antihistamine drugs can cause drowsiness and are hard on the liver. A liver which is already overloaded by the high histamine levels in the blood vessels. Not many know that something as simple as Vitamin C is a natural antihistamine and a to hay fever.

With no side effects or risk for overdosing I definitely prefer vitamin C to commercial drugs.

But how much do you really need?

Of course this depends on your immune system and how severe your allergy is but I’ll tell you how it works for my husband. My husband is allergic to birch pollen and last weekend there were very high levels of birch pollen where we live in south Sweden. On Saturday morning my husband woke up with a runny nose. With breakfast he started taking vitamin C. He took 500 mg every half hour until lunch. This was enough to keep him symptom free all of Saturday AND Sunday.

Since vitamin C is -soluble there is no need to worry about overdosing. If you get diarrhea, you’re body is telling you that it’s had enough for the day.

Lack of energy? Maybe you’re dehydrated. Did you know that if you only drink 1-4 glasses of a day, this can lead to ?
With tons of great tasting juices, sodas, coffees teas out there we seam to have forgotten to fill our basic need to drink .

  • If you drink one cup of coffee you need to dink 2 cups of to get back to the same hydration level as before you had coffee.
  • If you drink one cup of soda you need to drink 1 cup or to get back to the same hydration level as before you had soda.

Pretty scary, don’t you think.

So most of us don’t drink enough and we slowly but surely get more and more dehydrated.
Reversing the trend gives you a fantastic energy kick!

Drinking does not only give you more energy, it is a great way to !

contains no calories and no fat. Maybe the biggest reason that you loose weight when you drink is that you drink less of other things:
Sodas: are full of sugar that makes you fat.
Diet sodas: are full of artificial sweeteners that make you hungrier and subsequently makes you gain weight.
Juice: most juices are full of sugar. If you make your own juice at home with fresh fruits and vegetables that is great! Most other juices, you’re better off without.
Coffee and tea: unless you drink it black with no sugar it’s full of sugar or artificial sweeteners and flavors, which make you fat.

Other reasons that you loose weight when you drink are:

  • Drinking make you feel full.
  • increases you metabolism.
  • cleans you body from toxins.
  • supports you digestive system.

Drinking enough does not mean that you can’t drink anything else. Simply start by drinking more as a part of your overall total wellness. You’ll slowly get used to it an actually prefer to drink when you are thirsty. The energy increase and will come by itself. Read more about the benefits of drinking water.
